Andrea Holder

Existential Psychotherapist
(UKCP accred. and MBACP reg.)

I am a UKCP accredited Existential Psychotherapist. Following completion of my MA in Psychotherapy at Regent’s University, London, I undertook further advanced training in existential psychotherapy (PGCEP) also at Regent’s University, London.

I am also trained in Visualisation and Rewind Technique for anxiety, panic and phobias. (Human Givens College).

Following a career in law I made the decision to pursue a life-long interest in psychotherapy and philosophy. Existential psychotherapy in its approach acknowledges that many of our struggles and challenges can be seen as problems of living, of relating with others, of living with uncertainty. It seeks to explore that feeling we sometimes get which we cannot name – a dissatisfaction, feeling unhappy or feeling nothing, just not being present in our lives or held back in some way from living the life we want to live. I believe existential psychotherapy and phenomenology opens up, sheds light onto our way of being and can offer us hope – hope that we can take the courageous steps to move forward towards a life that whilst always uncertain we may begin to feel more connected, more flexible and more authentic within it.

Whilst I work with any issue you may bring your familial and wider existential context is explored. I have a strong interest in the way we carry, in our bodies, past trauma, anxiety and somatic responses generally and I work towards integrating into my existential practice understanding from psychomotor psychotherapy.

I have experience in issues such as anxiety, OCD, self-esteem, low mood, relationship difficulties, suicide, bereavement, loneliness, depression, sexuality and sexual issues, anger, stress, trauma and abuse as well as an interest in working with more general feelings about feeling empty, stuck, lost and the ‘Is this it?’ unsatisfied sense about your life and where it is going.
